The King County Library System Remodel Projects:
Survey & Assessment Project:
Seventeen Library Branches throughout greater King County were part of a major survey and assessment project.
The project incorporated a review of all architectural colors, materials and finishes; inventory and assessment
of all furnishings for functional performance and aesthetics. Reports were prepared identifying programmatic
requirements and recommendations for space plan modifications, furnishings replacement or refurbishment.
CAD drawings for each library were drafted indicating alternate space plan options to increase efficiency of
library functions. Budget estimates for new furnishings, signage were developed. This information was incorporated
into a master Survey and Assessment Report which included exterior architectural, mechanical, electrical,
handicapped and code evaluations prepared by an architectural team.
Branch Remodels:
Fifteen of these branch libraries, ranging in size from 2,500 SF to 16,000 SF were subsequently renovated within
a fast-tracked nine-month timeframe. All the projects required selection and specification of new architectural
colors, materials and furnishings; development of alternate space plan options to increase efficiency and provide
for the new Online Public Access Catalogs; evaluation and specification of new library shelving; production of
CAD contract documents for implementation; and coordination of construction and installation schedules. |
